GAPAN Year for Alex!
When Newbury Air Cadet Alex Hamn was found to be too tall to fly in a Vigilant Glider, Kestrel Gliding Club came flying to the rescue!
Kestrel Gliding Club, who are based at RAF Odiham in Hampshire, is part of the RAF Gliding and Soaring Association. The RAFGSA offers recreational gliding to serving personnel but, from time to time, there are also opportunities for Air cadets to get involved. Continue reading

Brize Own 5 A Side!
The teams from 2267 (Brize Norton) Squadron dominated the Thames Valley Wing 5-a-Side Competition held at RAF Benson. Both the male and female teams edged there way confidently through the early rounds before being place against formidable opposition in the finals.
In the key games of the day the Brize Girls team faced against a confident team from 2507 (Bicester) Squadron only for the game to end in a penalty shoot out. The boys faced a similar final against 1116 (Woodley) Squadron with the deciding goal being awarded being a highly contensious shot from the penalty spot. Continue reading
Field craft Fun in the Sun
With the sun out and temperatures in the 20’s, over 100 cadets and staff from across the Thames Valley enjoyed and uncharacteristically warm weekend at Bramley Training Area during the first Wing Tactical Leadership Camp of the year.
Splitting into three groups, first time cadets learnt the basic principles of fieldcraft and living in the field, an Intermediate group brushed up on existing skills whilst learning how to lead and the most advanced cadets were given an intensive weekend where they were tested to the maximum including a demanding stretcher carry. Multiactivity adventure training in Pangbourne
Cadets from across Thames Valley Wing assembled at Adventure Dolphin Pangbourne on Saturday 2nd April 2011 to take part in a multi activity training day; the first in the Wing to incorporate both climbing and canoeing.
Following an initial briefing, the cadets were split into two groups to tackle their activities – the first group tackling Adventure Dolphin’s indoor climbing wall – taking on 9 climbing challenging routes over the course of the morning. Continue reading

Gala presentation for cadets at Wallingford
Staff and cadets from 966 (Wallingford) Squadron gathered to witness the final act of their current Commanding officer during a recent awards ceremony.
On the academic side the Squadron has been fortunate enough to have achieved three passes in the BTEC First Certificates in Aviation Studies qualification and eight examination passes during the recent round of classification exams which are held for all cadets in the Air Training Corps. Additionally once cadet was fortunate enough to be presented with his Heartstart First Aid certificate which represents the first rung on the potential ladder of First Aid training offered by the Corps.
