A new and exciting new course is about to offered to cadets who are interested in the media or want an innovative addition for DofE skills! The week long media camp will happen during the established Pirbright Camp in August with the selected cadets forming a news team to cover the camp and creative new media.
Wing Media Communications Officer, Sqn Ldr Mark Trevena takes up the story “we are looking for cadets to take part in a workshop covering creative writing, photography + newsletters for certain and maybe some sort of video and web element as well. The cadets would then practice these skills by covering the rest of the camp and producing local Sqn stories, newsletters and content for www.aircadets.tv. The training could be useful for DofE Skills + Residential as well as being useful to becoming your Squadron media expert and to get top marks at the Wing Activities Day Media Skills session!”
If you are interested, keep an eye out on paper work for the Pirbright Camps, but just so you can get prepared to bid for one of the limited places on this unique week, the week is aimed at cadets of any age/classification who have interest in creative writing, photography or media in general. You must want to learn new skills and work as a team in the creation of media output for the web, local newspapers and a daily Pirbright newsletter.
If you are selected then you should be available for the duration of the Media Camp, currently scheduled Friday evening of the 17th to Saturday 25th August and have access to a suitable digital camera and lap top – but if you don’t have this kit you will not be discounted, although to get the most out of the week it would be an advantage.
We leave the last word to Sqn Ldr Trevena “If you are interested in taking part, ask your staff about the Pirbright camps – the paperwork will be with Squadrons sometime after Easter”.
