On Saturday 8 October 17 cadets and 3 staff from Thames Valley made the long journey down to HMS Raleigh Cornwall for the South West Region Inter Wing Swimming Championship.
The championship took place on Sunday 9 October; The Thames Valley 17 strong team went up against the best of the other five Wings of South West Region in what proved to be a very close competition with some exceptional swimmers.
The Thames Valley team collected 30 bronze, silver and gold medals, in individual and team events.
Some performances to note;
- Cdt C Gallagher 136 Chipping Norton – Gold Junior Boys Breaststroke.
- Cpl A Lamb 136 Chipping Norton – Gold Senior Boys Breaststroke & Individual Medley.
- Cdt D Blowfield 2410 Didcot, Cdt T Clarke 2121 Abingdon, Cdt C Gallagher 136 Chipping Norton & Cdt L Saunders 2120 Witney Gold Junior Boys Medley Relay.
I would like to thank Sgt (ATC) J Palmer 1315 Kidlington, Thames Valley Team Manager and CI J Bird 2507 Bicester, Thames Valley Team Coach for the commitment, dedication and support they showed during this event.
A special mention to Cpl A Lamb 136 Chipping Norton Thames Valley Cadet Team Manager who for the fifth consecutive (and final) year has represented Thames Valley at the championship and because of his performance will for the third consecutive year represent South West Region at the Corps Inter Region Championship in early 2017.
Along with Cdt C Gallagher 136 Chipping Norton who made his first representation for Thames Valley one to remember and will join Cpl Lamb at RAF Cranwell in 2017.
Thames Valley Wing placed 3rd overall in the championship a fantastic result from such a young team and considering our withdrawal from two big events and eight of the Wing team also made this their first Representation for Thames Valley in Sports;
I would like to congratulate and thank each and every cadet who attended and competed for the Wing and look forward to seeing you at future events, especially the Inter Squadron Swimming next September.
