Each year cadets and staff from across Thames Valley wing gather at Wing HQ to take part in the various competitions that make up the wing activities day. With an early start for many squadrons cadets arrive ready to compete in a range of events show casing the skills they have learnt whilst being in the Air Training Corps. The event shows a high level of standards across all disciplines and this year was no exception across all the entries and levels of participation by the cadets.
With over 200 cadets at WAD 2013 squadrons took part in a range of events including the following: Aircraft Recognition, Aviation Art, Drill, Media Skills, Aero modelling, Photography, Public speaking and website entries. These events match the Regional Activities Day and allows the wing to select a team to represent Thames Valley Wing at the next level. Additional competitions on the day also included First Aid, Super Snooker, Archery, Map Making and Flight of Fancy with these also providing cadets the opportunity to show their knowledge and skills.
The entries that were provided for this year shows the talent and skills of the cadets within the wing were still at a high level with many cadets (and staff members) aiming to come back in 2014 with a view of winning a trophy they just missed out on this year. With the results been announced on the day, 211 (Newbury) Squadron came away as this year’s WAD 2013 overall winners. Congratulations to the cadets and staff from the squadron and also all the other units that have spent many parade nights practicing and preparing for the day.
Once the final scores and squadron’s positions are available they will be available for all staff and cadets to view. If you have photos from the day send them in to media.thamesvalley@aircadets.org or perhaps share your squadron’s story from the day.
