Brize Norton Air Cadets have been crowned championsas the high flying sportsmen and women from across the Thames Valley were recognised during a special ceremony at the Wing Athletics.

Throughout the sporting seasonthe Wing Sports Officer, Flight Sergeant Barry Tweddle, and his team keep a record of cadets and squadronparticipation in sport.In addition to ranking the cadets onon their attendance, the Sports Team also look at the cadet and squadrons commitment, dedication, sportsmanship and enthusiasm for sports.

Top Male Sporting Cadet – Sgt D Nawornysky of 2267 (Brize Norton) Squadron- represented the wing, region and corps at senior football and his dedication to the team and his fellow cadets was exceptional. For his excellence and sporting achievement he was awarded the Tweddle Cup.

Top Female Sporting Cadet – Cdt D Pratley of 2267 (Brize Norton) Squadron – represented the wing at swimming, hockey, netball and cross country. She also represented the region for swimming and attended all other sports competitions to represent her squadron. This in itself is amazing, but her own excitement is contagious to the cadets and staff around her. She was awarded the Rosemary Mead Cup.

Top Sporting Squadron – 2267 Brize Norton– Have had cadets attend every inter squadron competition within the wing and in many winning awards and trophies. They have also had cadets represent the wing at swimming, senior football, junior rugby, junior and senior hockey, junior and senior netball, cross country and athletics. This is reflected in their cadets representing the region at swimming, senior football, junior rugby, junior and senior hockey. They have also had Sgt Nawornysky represent corps at senior football. This is not to say that other squadrons haven’t had similar success across the sporting spectrum but above and beyond Brize Norton stood above therest, both with attendance and skill but with enthusiasm and excitement. Brize Norton was awarded the Sergeants Cup.
