Sqn Ldr Duncan Mason, an ex-Cadet of Wokingham Squadron and current Harrier pilot, has joined the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight as a Hurricane Pilot.
To get prepared for the forthcoming display season Sqn Ldr Mason has been training on the Chipmunk and has just completed his first solo on the Hurricane.
Following his time with Wokingham Air Cadets, Sqn Ldr Duncan Mason joined the RAF in 1991 and has enjoyed back-to-back flying tours ever since. After training Dunc was posted to 3 (Fighter) Squadron and completed a tour flying Harrier GR7s from RAF Laarbruch in Germany, taking part in Operations over the former Yugoslavia. In 2000 he was posted to 19 (Fighter) Squadron as a Flying, Weapons and Tactics Instructor and in 2002 was selected for the red Arrows, competing three seasons with the team. In 2005 Dunc was posted back to the Joint Force Harrier flying the GR7/9 as a Flight Commander on 1 (Fighter) Squadron and subsequently to 800 Naval Air Squadron, taking part in Operations in Afghanistan with both Squadrons. In 2008 Dunc was posted to be the Harrier Standards Officer, flying with all UK Harrier Squadrons. This is his 1st season on BBMF.
