A group of newly promoted and potential cadet NCOs have completed the first steps in what hopefully will be long and successful careers within the Air Training Corps by attending a preparation for Corporal course.
Over the training weekend at RAF Brize Norton the students, who ranged in age from 14 to 16 were taken through a range of activities, from drill instruction and discipline through to leadership techniques and welfare obligations, all of which are skills necessary to successfully perform the function of a Non Commissioned Officer.
The weekend itself was particularly challenging as there was a lot of material to cover in a short period of time but, said Flight Sergeant Russ Sherfield who was one of the instructors “the cadets all did extremely well in picking the information up and applying much of it in the practical scenarios”.
The cadets worked in pairs and groups throughout much of the weekend in order to apply the skills they had been taught and have all since returned to their own units where their training will continue under the watchful gaze of their cadet senior NCOs and Squadron staff.
