In temperatures of up 28oC Oxfordshire Air Cadets have marched through the streets of Oxfordshire with Sea Cadets and Army Cadets to celebrate Cadet 150.
The cadets started the celebrations with a service at Christ Church Cathedral where following a welcome by the Bishop of Oxford, Right Reverend John Pritchard, the Lord Lieutenants Cadets read the lessons. The Lord Lieutenant, Nr Tim Stevenson OBE, also gave an address where he praised the work of all of the Cadet forces and thanked them for their valuable work they perform in their local communities throughout Oxfordshire.
Following the service the cadets formed up under the beating sun to march through the city centre streets before passing the saluting base at the County Hall where the salute was taken by the Lord Lieutenant and High Sheriff. As they passed the saluting base the gather crowd clapped and cheered as the parade passed by.
After the parade, the cadets made their way to Falklands House, home of the University of Oxford Air Squadron for refreshments, to meet the VIP’s and a chance to view the England/Germany match!
Deputy Wing Commander, Squadron Leader Stephen New was impressed with the cadets “we had almost 60 cadets marching today in tough conditions plus many musicians in the Joint Service band. Despite the weather the cadets and staff really showed incredible professionalism, smartness and discipline today for which I truly thank them all.”
