A team of cadets from Thames Valley Wing have come away from the South West Regional Activity Day with a haul of silverware and a respectable 3rd place overall.
Despite the unseasonable temperatures a team of cadets including those from Woodley, Windsor, Wantage, Wokingham, Reading and Earley took up the challenge in Squad Drill, Banner Drill, Websites, Media Skills, Aircraft Recognition, Aviation Art, Aero modelling and Photography.
Winning gold in the Squad Drill were the cadets of 1116 (Woodley ) Squadron who beat off a last minute challenge to make it two wins in a row and earn a ticket to the prestigious Corps Championships. In a step perfect routine Cadet Flight Sergeant Mayne showed perfect control of the team. Also coming top of their competition was 1996 (Earley) Squadron who website – www.1996.org.uk – was judged as the best site in the South West.
Narrowly missing out on top spot in the Banner Drill competition 381 (Reading) Squadron came second but showed lots of promise for future competitions with their new team for 2011.
Squadron Leader Mark Trevena was at RAF Lyneham to support the team “I was so impressed with the team today – they worked so hard and showed what great cadets and staff we have in the Wing. It was a real shame we came 3rd, but the top 3 places were so close this year”.
