A team of cadets drawn from across the Thames Valley area triumphed in the pool and came away with the silverware following the recent inter-Wing swimming competition which was held at HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth.
The competition was tough as the team was pitted against others drawn from across the South West of the UK including from as far afield as Plymouth, Cornwall and the Isle of Wight but the Thames Valley contingent proved themselves to be very much up to the mark. In an outstanding performance both the junior and senior girls teams swept to overall victory in their classes whilst the junior and senior boys also put in a highly credible performance. Overall the points gained were such that Thames Valley Wing was declared the overall winner on the night.
Competing at this level is always a challenge as each of the cadets will previously have competed for their own Squadrons in intra Wing events and thus the cadets who make it this far have already proven themselves to be the best from their own area.
Wing Sports officer, Flight Sergeant Barry Tweddle said “This is the first time Thames Valley, in its 16 years in South West Region, has won the Region swimming championship. I really can’t think of a more amazing start to the sporting season.”
As an added bonus 6 of the team were selected to represent South West Region at the Inter Region swimming competition which is due to take place on Saturday 12 November, we wish them well.
