Over the past month, a team of cadets from Wallingford Squadron Air Training Corps (ATC) has been taking part in competitions against other cadets in the south west.
Every year, cadets from all 27 squadrons in Thames Valley Wing compete against each other in several events, including photography, best website, aircraft recognition, drill and public speaking. The winning individuals and teams then go on to represent the Wing at the South West Region event.
This year, Wallingford cadets have done particularly well. At Wing level they won best individual in aircraft recognition, best under-16 cadet photograph, media skills and best new website. The cadets then went on to represent Thames Valley Wing in these events at the South West Region competition at RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire.
The biggest winner of the Region event was Cadet House, who progressed to become the Region Aircraft Recognition Individual Winner. Cadet House will now go on to represent South West Region at the national Corps competition in November.
Wallingford Squadron’s Media Skills team also did extremely well, coming second in the Region, and missing out on first place by just a few points.
The day ended with a formal presentation ceremony with Group Captain Remlinger, Officer Commanding South West Region, awarding trophies to winning individuals and teams.
Flt Lt Chris Tocher, Officer Commanding Wallingford ATC, said: “The cadets and staff have worked hard to ensure the squadron was represented strongly in the competitions and this has really paid off. The events are a great way to motivate squadrons and give an opportunity for friendly rivalry”.
