1116 Woodley Air Cadets visited the Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service at Whitley Wood Fire Station in Reading. After a brief, questions and answers and a video on various types of fire we split into 2 groups. The Cadets where kitted up in mock breathing apparatuses to simulate a smoke filled room. They had to follow a rope and manoeuvre around and under obstacles.
The other group had a tour of the station and Fire engines (Pumps) learning all about how a station operated using the “watches” and learning about various types of equipment and when they are used. After a short water break (no pun intended!) the team swapped over.
FS Chris Harding of Woodley Squadron who organised the event said “the Staff and Cadets really enjoyed the evening, it was a great insight into the Fire Service and what they do for the community. The Cadets did really well during the smoke filled room challenge drawing on their team work and communications skills”. I’d like to extend my thanks to the Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service for allowing us to visit and for giving up their valuable time for us. Thanks Fire Fighters Mark, Dan and Chris (front left to right in the picture) for an excellent evening.”
