Windsor Air Cadets provides opportunities for you to get airborne, meet new people, learn new skills, develop in character and ability and have fun doing it.
With the sun out and temperatures in the 20’s, over 100 cadets and staff from across the Thames Valley enjoyed and uncharacteristically warm weekend at Bramley Training Area during the first Wing Tactical Leadership Camp of the year.
Splitting into three groups, first time cadets learnt the basic principles of fieldcraft and living in the field, an Intermediate group brushed up on existing skills whilst learning how to lead and the most advanced cadets were given an intensive weekend where they were tested to the maximum including a demanding stretcher carry. Cadets from across Thames Valley Wing assembled at Adventure Dolphin Pangbourne on Saturday 2nd April 2011 to take part in a multi activity training day; the first in the Wing to incorporate both climbing and canoeing.
Following an initial briefing, the cadets were split into two groups to tackle their activities – the first group tackling Adventure Dolphin’s indoor climbing wall – taking on 9 climbing challenging routes over the course of the morning. Continue reading →
A team of 4 cadets from 2499 (Wokingham) Squadron have lifted the prestigious Nowell Cup trophy in a tough, shoulder to shoulder, shoot off with the Army Cadets.
The competition held annually at Reading’s Brock Barracks is a test of marksmanship using small-bore rifles on a 25 metre range. Each firer has to fire two shots against 5 separate bull eye targets – a tough discipline requiring a steady aim and solid skills. Continue reading →

RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire was the venue for one of the premier courses to be held in Thames Valley Wing as a group of cadets, drawn from across the Wing and identified by their Commanding Officers as having the potential for promotion to the rank of Cadet Corporal, were schooled in the basic skills required to perform this task.
The 22 candidates, guided by 4 extremely experienced members of Air Cadet staff and a senior staff cadet were put through their paces in a mixture of classroom instruction and practical exercises covering subjects such as drill and leadership. A team of cadets representing Thames Valley have been narrowly beaten in a competition to find the best Wing in the South West loosing out by a mere 2 points after a day of competitions.
The cadets from across Berkshire and Oxfordshire were drawn from Windsor, Woodley, Burghfield, Kidlington, Abingdon and Reading. The individual competitions were held for Drill, Aircraft Recognition, Art, Photography, Banner Drill and Public Speaking. Continue reading →
211 (Newbury) Squadron reigned supreme at the Thames Valley Wing Field Weekend held at Bicester.
The activities held over the two day competition were designed to test all of the cadets skills. Together with drill, aircraft recognition, the cadets from 26 different Squadrons also had to undertake outdoor activities on the nearby Piddington Training Area such as a first aid scenario, patrol lane and a Duke of Edinburgh Award challenge. he Cadets of 459 (Windsor) Squadron have proved that training does really count by winning the Thames Valley Wing Challenge event in style.
The team of 8 cadets based in the Royal Borough of Windsor have been training hard for 3 months ready to take on the 21 teams at the annual event held each July at Bramley Training Area near Basingstoke.
